Thompson’s “Fear and Loathing,” and 1981’s animated classic “Heavy Metal” among many others, is a violent, vulgar, and expansive examination of the past, present, and future of the fantastical society of Stockinghop, a putrid settlement only accessible through a portal in the mind of Luther Kale, a troubled, anthropomorphic, acid-tripping hot dog.
